On Monday, July 23, 2007, Jonathan Lamont Silver was shot and killed while inside his vehicle in the 3000 block of South Dakota Avenue NE in Washington, D.C. The shooting occurred at about 4:15 a.m.; an unknown assailant fired into the vehicle and then fled. Emergency responders were summoned but Silver did not survive.

The Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation. Law enforcement is seeking tips and has offered a substantial reward for information that could lead to an arrest and conviction.
