On March 10, 2009, a shooting spree in and around Samson, Alabama killed multiple people, including 24-year-old James Irvin Starling. He also shot his grandmother in her home and fired at strangers as he drove through town.
James Irvin Starling was shot in the back while trying to flee during the chaotic period when the gunman was firing indiscriminately; other victims were killed at a gas station and on the highway. The assailant’s rampage ended at a metal plant in Geneva, where after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement he died by suicide. The attacker left a letter alleging disputes with his mother’s family and personal struggles.
If anyone knew James Irvin Starling or was in Samson that day and can help clarify what happened, please share what is known.
