Luis Alvarez was 35 when he was shot and killed in Northeast Washington, DC, on December 26, 2007. Responding officers arrived after reports of gunfire and found Alvarez suffering from gunshot wounds; he died despite efforts to save him. The shooting occurred during the quiet stretch between Christmas and New Year, the holiday lights still up as a homicide scene was set up on a District street.
The Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation, collected evidence at the scene, and pursued leads, but no arrests have been announced and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains listed as unsolved, and a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that could help resolve the killing. If anyone has information about Alvarez’s final hours or the shooting, please come forward to authorities.
