Harvey Stewart, a 29-year-old Black man also recorded in official files as Harvey Cobb and listed as aka Harvey Stewart, was shot to death late on July 12, 2008, on the 5100 block of 7th Street NW in Washington, D.C. The attack occurred at approximately 11:41 p.m.; Stewart died at the scene. Two other people were wounded—one taken to a hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot injuries, and a third treated on-scene for a graze wound to the head.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch asked the public for help, offering up to $25,000 for information and urging anyone with even a small recollection of the block to come forward. Family notices published the next day marked his passing and memorialized him, but many questions about who fired the shots and why remain unanswered.
