On the night of Friday, July 18, 2008, 29-year-old Keith Ricardo Hines was shot once in the head on the porch of his Washington, D.C., home in the 900 block of Allison Street NW at about 11:34 p.m. An unknown person walked up to the porch and fired the fatal shot.
Hines had a troubled past that included time in prison but had been rebuilding his life. He worked as a teacher’s assistant with special-education students, led a men’s group, served on the board of a charter school he once attended, and hoped to become a lawyer. In the months before his killing he told his boss he was worried about an old issue with someone in the neighborhood but stayed to care for his mother.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the death as a homicide and has offered a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. If anyone knew Keith, his neighborhood, or the people he mentioned being concerned about, please come forward with information.
