Has anyone looked into whether Deward Killion could have wandered into the area around the northeast side of Target Meadows Campground? That part of the forest is known for being pretty dense and can be confusing for even experienced hikers. I know he was in good shape for his age, but the weather and terrain could have easily disoriented him. Also, considering his diabetes, if he'd gotten too far off track and was unable to manage his condition, he could have become incapacitated relatively quickly. Has anyone else familiar with that area noticed anything strange or suspicious around the time he went missing? Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.

I recently became engrossed in Deward Killion's case and the part that sticks out to me is the weather struggle during the search. I live not far from the area and know how unpredictable and harsh the conditions can get. The cold, rain, and fog must have not only made it incredibly tough for the search teams but might have posed significant risks to Killion himself, especially given his age and health status. It's mind-boggling how those variables can impact a search and rescue operation. Those poor weather conditions likely limited visibility and made tracking nearly impossible. I wonder if that's why the dogs lost his scent. It's hard to shake the feeling that with just slightly different weather conditions, the outcome might have been different. Has anyone else familiar with the area observed how much weather impacts these searches?
