Yoshio Nakada, 61, was found dead in front of the Potomac Plaza Apartments on Virginia Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., on the morning of December 24, 2008. The D.C. Medical Examiner determined he died from multiple chop wounds to the head that fractured his skull and caused a subarachnoid hemorrhage. The Metropolitan Police Department is treating the death as a homicide.
A Japanese immigrant who had lived in Washington since 2003, Nakada had been experiencing homelessness and was a familiar presence in Foggy Bottom and around George Washington University. Neighbors remembered his love for singing Danke Schoen, his recent attendance at meetings of a local Quaker society, and that he spoke little English. The Homicide and Sexual Offenses Branch has been investigating, offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction, but no arrests or suspects have been announced. A vigil was held with friends, community members, and representatives from the Japanese Embassy.
Does anyone who knew Nakada or was in Foggy Bottom on that morning have information that could help the investigation?
