Anyone else feel like the plea deal that Philander Hampton took was a bit too lenient for his role in the case? I mean, I get that prosecutors sometimes offer deals to secure testimony, but a 10-year sentence for admitting involvement in such a serious crime seems off to me. Especially since his testimony was the crux of the prosecution’s case against Lee Evans. It just makes you wonder about the fairness of the whole process. Plus, considering that Hampton recanted his statement later, it adds another layer of complexity. I can't help but think about the families and what they must feel watching all this unfold. Would love to hear what others think about how plea deals are used in cases like this.
