I've been following the "Clinton Avenue Five" case for a while, and something that really puzzles me is the way the ransom call was handled. I mean, $750 isn't a massive amount, but it's still strange, right? Why go through the trouble of placing a call from D.C. if they were supposedly killed in Newark? And was there any follow-up from law enforcement to track down numbers called from that payphone around that time? It feels like it could've been someone trying to capitalize on the family's desperation, but it's never really discussed in most summaries of the case. I wonder if there were other calls that we're not aware of. Anyone else have thoughts on this angle?

I’ve been digging back into the Clinton Avenue Five case, and something has been bugging me about the phone call for ransom that happened a few days after the boys disappeared. It's just wild to me that someone went through the trouble of making that call, asking for $750 for information, and then just vanished into thin air. Did anyone ever really look into whether this caller was just some opportunist trying to exploit the situation, or could they have actually been connected to the disappearance? The call came from D.C., which is a bit of a haul from Newark, and I wonder if there’s any tie there that investigators missed. I'm curious if there were any other unsolved crimes linked to that payphone or area around that time. Thoughts from anyone who's dug into the records? Or maybe theories on who might have made the call?
