I’ve been thinking a lot about the ripple effect this tragedy has caused, especially on Officer Justin Billa’s family. Losing a loved one is already incredibly difficult, and knowing they were putting themselves in harm’s way to protect our community adds another layer of complexity to their grief. Officer Billa was new on the force and had a young family. I can’t imagine the heartbreak his wife and child are going through. It's also a stark reminder of the constant dangers police officers face when responding to volatile situations. They put their lives on the line every day, not knowing if they'll come back home. I hope this incident leads to more conversations about how we can support officers better and improve safety measures in these situations.
