I can't stop thinking about the safety measures (or lack thereof) in schools today. The tragedy of Courtlin Arrington's death is an unbearable reminder of how vulnerable students can be, even in places meant for growth and learning. It's deeply concerning that a firearm was brought into the school unnoticed. I can't help but wonder, what can schools realistically do to prevent weapons from entering in the first place? I've read a bit about metal detectors and increased security presence, but that seems more like treating symptoms rather than the root cause. I feel we need to seriously look into how we can foster environments where students feel secure—and not just physically. Are there any schools successfully implementing measures that genuinely make students safer, both emotionally and physically? This case just makes me think that we need systemic changes to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again. My thoughts are with Courtlin’s family; I can’t imagine the pain they must be feeling.
