I was reading about Virginia's case again today, and something that's baffling to me is how she managed to leave the hospital without a formal discharge. Hospitals usually have such stringent procedures, and staff are so involved that it must’ve been difficult for someone to slip away unnoticed. Given the circumstances, you’d think there would have been some sort of protocol in place for patients who might be at risk, especially after such a brutal assault.
But it seems like she wasn’t flagged or kept under any watchful eye, which raises so many questions for me. Did she just walk out without anyone questioning it, or was someone potentially complicit by not stopping her? I wonder if anyone ever witnessed her leaving the hospital or has come forward with information about her demeanor at that moment. Or if any hospital staff remembers her at all from that night. Would love to hear if anyone has more insight into the procedures back then or if there’s any further context to how she possibly managed to leave unnoticed.
