Don Jones, a celebrated opera tenor who performed with the Washington National Opera, was found fatally shot in Fort Dupont Park on the afternoon of June 8, 2010. His body was discovered next to his car near picnic tables; he remained unidentified for several days and was initially handled as a John Doe by the medical examiner.
Jones was a husband and father of two young children and, with his wife, had recently adopted two infants. The shooting shocked the city’s arts community and left his family grieving. Detectives searched the park area, distributed reward posters and appealed to the public for information, but no arrests or publicly identified suspects followed.
The motive for the killing has not been established and the investigation grew cold, leaving the family and community with unanswered questions. If anyone knew Don Jones, his routines, or saw activity in Fort Dupont Park on June 8, 2010, please come forward with any information that might help solve this case.
