I was reading about the tragedy with Hannah Griffith and David Loftin Jr. on the Red River back in '08 and stumbled across some old threads discussing life jacket regulations. It made me wonder about the safety measures that were, or weren't, in place that night. Does anyone know if the group had life jackets or if there were any safety briefings before they went out on the water, especially since it was so late at night? It's puzzling how often these details are overlooked or not emphasized, especially in areas where the water can be unpredictable. If anyone has more knowledge on boating laws in Louisiana around that time, I’d love to understand more. It's just so frustrating to think how sometimes these things could possibly prevent such tragic situations.
I’ve been mulling over the circumstances of Hannah and David's disappearance, and something strikes me as curious. The boat capsized about 75 yards from the Red River boat launch. Has anyone seen details about the river conditions that night? It was the early hours of April 3rd—wondering if high water levels or a strong current played a role. The river can be unpredictable at any time of year, but were there any witnesses or reports on the conditions from others who might've been in the area? I imagine any insight into the state of the river could help piece together how things might have unfolded that night and why some could make it to shore while others couldn’t. Would appreciate any info or thoughts on this from locals or those familiar with that stretch of the river.
