Hi everyone,
I've been reading through the threads about the 2006 Kaloko Dam disaster and wanted to share a thought about the role of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources in this whole tragedy. It's so frustrating that even though they claim they were denied access by Pflueger, one has to wonder if there could have been more persistence or alternative actions on their part given the potential risk to public safety. It's like they hit a wall and that was it, no further action.
Has anyone come across details on how the DLNR usually handles cases where property owners deny them inspections? It's unsettling to think that if things had been pushed further, perhaps some lives could have been saved. This part of the case is really troubling to me, amidst all the other heartbreaking aspects. Would love to hear if others have looked into this angle or have insights.
Stay safe, everyone.
I was recently reading more about the tragic Kaloko Dam failure and it struck me how interconnected everyone was at the scene. Carl Wayne Rotstein was there to celebrate what should have been a beautiful new beginning for his friends, Christina and Daniel. It's so unimaginable how a joyful gathering could turn into such a catastrophic event. I keep thinking about how things might have played out differently if the dam had been inspected properly. It's been haunting me how the actions (or rather, inactions) of a few can forever alter the lives of so many. I'm curious if anyone here has more details or insights on how the victims' families are coping years later?
