Sonya Lynch, a 46-year-old African-American mother and grandmother, was found dead in the parking lot of the Anacostia Park Skating Pavilion in Washington, D.C., on the evening of Sunday, April 17, 2011. Initial callers reported a female down and a possible vehicle strike, but officers discovered Lynch unconscious with multiple stab wounds; emergency medical personnel found no signs of life and she was pronounced dead by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Detectives concluded the attack occurred shortly before her body was discovered at about 9:55 p.m., and the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch took over the investigation. Authorities publicly appealed for help and offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction, but no suspects were immediately identified and no arrests had been made.
If anyone knew Sonya, was in the area that night, or has information that could help, please come forward.
