In the spring of 2011, a tragedy unfolded in the nation's capital, forever altering the lives of a Washington, D.C. family. Sonya Lynch, a 46-year-old African-American mother and grandmother, was discovered in the parking lot of the Anacostia Park Skating Pavilion on the evening of Sunday, April 17th. The initial call to U.S. Park Police reported a 'female down,' and a subsequent call to D.C. police mentioned a woman possibly struck by a vehicle.
