I can't stop thinking about the impact this tragedy has had on Mae Jemison High School. It's clear that Deu'nta "Pooda" Moore was more than just a talented athlete—he was a role model for so many of his peers. It's so sad to see how violence has cut short what could have been a bright future, not just for him, but for the community that looked up to him. Having grief counselors on-site seems like a much-needed step, but it's hard to imagine how students and staff are coping. The strength of this community amazes me, and I hope they continue to support each other through this difficult time. If anyone has insight on how the school is honoring his legacy, it would be nice to hear about the positive things happening in his memory.
I just can't get over how much potential Deu'nta "Pooda" Moore had. Everything I've read about him on the forums and local news says he was a beacon for his peers at Mae Jemison High. It's like the whole school lost a part of its heart when he was taken. I've seen people talking about the basketball team dedicating their next season to him, which is a beautiful way to honor his memory. It’s uplifting to see the community come together to support the students and staff in dealing with this immense loss. It's a painful reminder of how senseless violence can tear apart such bright futures. Remembering Pooda for the leader on the court is just as important as seeking justice for the crime. My thoughts are with his coaches and teammates who must be feeling this loss so personally.
