On the night of Monday, January 20, 2014, two people were found shot to death in a basement efficiency apartment in a rowhouse on Girard Street NW in Columbia Heights, Washington, D.C. Keyonna Proctor, a 24-year-old Black woman from Southeast D.C., was discovered on the apartment floor, and 36-year-old Oluremi K. Thomas was found in a bed. A cousin of one of the victims made the discovery at about 10:56 p.m.
Police determined neither Proctor nor Thomas lived at the Girard Street address, a detail investigators said suggested they may have been lured there. Authorities reported drug paraphernalia in the apartment; Thomas had been arrested outside the same house months earlier for marijuana possession. A D.C. Council member described the killings as appearing intentional and resembling an execution-style slaying, and police announced a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
No arrests or suspect identifications have been publicly announced. If anyone knew Keyonna Proctor, Oluremi Thomas, their movements that night, or has information about the Girard Street apartment, please come forward.
