It's so difficult to wrap my head around the entire situation involving Ja'mil's tragic death. I can't stop thinking about the poor kid and what he might have gone through in the final moments of his life. It seems so senseless and avoidable. I'm endlessly frustrated by the fact that Ja'mil had voiced his concerns about not feeling safe to DHR, yet somehow he was still placed back in a dangerous environment. How did it slip through the cracks that he was returned to his mother despite serious concerns? It makes me worry about the system in place meant to protect children. I'm not trying to point fingers without knowing all the details, but I wish there had been a way for someone to intervene effectively. We owe it to these kids to prevent tragedies like this from happening. Sending thoughts of peace and healing to Ja'mil’s friends and family in this agonizing time.
