On the evening of Saturday, March 15, 2014, Kevin Marzell Leonard, a 20-year-old Black man, was shot near the Benning Road Metro station in the 4500 block of East Capitol Street SE in Washington, D.C. Emergency responders found Leonard with gunshot wounds; he was taken to a hospital and later died of his injuries.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch opened an investigation and the department issued a public appeal for information. A community vigil was held to remember Kevin, and online memorials note his death that March evening. No specific suspects or arrests have been disclosed in connection with the homicide and the investigation remains open.
