Ernest Edsel Harkum was killed on the night of Thursday, April 24, 2014. Police were called to the 900 block of Barnaby Street SE in Washington, D.C., at about 10:38 pm and found Harkum suffering from stab wounds; he later died from those injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation and detectives canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance video, but did not immediately release any information about a motive or possible suspects.
