A young man was shot and killed on a winter evening in Columbia Heights. Around 9:40 p.m. on January 10, 2015, Metropolitan Police officers responded to reports of gunfire near 14th and Monroe Streets NW and found 21-year-old Eduardo Carias-Martinez of Hyattsville, Maryland, on the 3400 block of Holmead Place NW with apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital but died of those wounds.

The Metropolitan Police opened a homicide investigation and asked the public for information about the shooting in the 1300 block of Monroe Street NW. No suspect descriptions were released and no arrests have been announced; the case remains unsolved.
