Hey everyone, I've been following the case of Joseph Evans Jr., and while there's so much that's tragic and infuriating, one thing that's caught my attention is the whole ankle monitor situation with Nyyon Elijah Sanders. It's so alarming to think that someone out on bond for a serious charge could just let their monitor die and roam around freely. I mean, aren't these devices supposed to keep communities safe by ensuring that those awaiting trial remain transparent about their whereabouts?
The fact that this was overlooked suggests a serious shortfall in the system, especially if the monitoring falls on private companies that may not have the same urgency or accountability as law enforcement. I feel for Joseph's family and friends, who must be grappling with the fact that this might've been preventable had the system worked properly. Every time I read about something like this, it just reinforces how crucial it is for any monitoring system to be reliable and closely supervised. How does everyone else feel about this? Does the system seem as broken to you as it does to me? Would love to hear thoughts or if anyone has similar stories.
