Shortly before 3:00 a.m. on August 22, 2015, gunfire broke the predawn quiet on the 300 block of 54th Street Northeast in Washington, D.C. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department found 26-year-old Kenneth Earl Watson Jr. suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene; his body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

The Homicide Branch classified the death as a homicide and the investigation has remained open. There has been no public announcement of an arrest or identified suspect in the case.
