I’ve been thinking a lot about the bravery Officer Dan Richard Seely showed on that tragic day in October 1996. It’s hard to wrap my head around the courage it must take to knowingly walk into dangerous situations like he did. I read that Seely had spent a decade with the Anchorage Police Department, which makes his loss feel even more significant — he dedicated a big part of his life to protecting others. His wife, Deborah, must have gone through so much, not just losing her husband, but while expecting their first child. I can't imagine the emotional toll of sending him out to work that day and then having everything change. It’s stories like these that remind us of the risks our officers take to keep the peace, and how important it is to support and remember the families they leave behind. Sending all my thoughts and prayers to Deborah and everyone affected. Let’s not forget Officer Seely’s service and the ultimate sacrifice he made.

Did anyone read about the heart-wrenching detail that Deborah, Officer Seely's wife, was actually working as a dispatcher when this terrible incident unfolded? I can't even begin to imagine how she must have felt hearing the call come in and being completely powerless to stop it. The courage and dedicated spirit of both Officer Seely and Deborah under these circumstances are beyond words. It's an awful reminder of the risks our law enforcement officers face every day. My heart goes out to both families who have had their lives shattered by this senseless tragedy. How is Christina doing now? I hope she's found some support to help her heal both physically and emotionally.
