On October 26, 1996, Anchorage Police Officer Dan Richard Seely, aged 40, responded to a domestic violence call in Chugiak, a suburb of Anchorage, Alaska. The call involved serving a warrant to Paul Ely Jr., who had violated a protective order by appearing at his estranged wife's residence.
