Hey folks, I've been going down the rabbit hole with Daniel L. Simmons's case and found something puzzling. I noticed that the South Portland PD in Maine is handling the investigation even though he was last seen in North Providence, RI, according to NamUs. I get that jurisdictions can manage cases under certain circumstances, but has anyone come across similar cases where there's a jump in jurisdiction like this? How common is it for departments in different states to lead an investigation? Could it be connected to the earlier report of him being in Lyman, ME? Any insights on this would be appreciated. It seems this crossing of state lines could be more significant than it looks.

Has anyone else noticed the strange delay in how Daniel L. Simmons’ case is being reported? I find it odd that the South Portland Police Department has an active case number dated for 2025, but he went missing in October 2022 from North Providence, RI. On top of that, there was that earlier confusion about him last being seen in Maine in 2021. It's almost like there's some major miscommunication between the different agencies involved. It makes me wonder if critical early investigation time was lost because of these discrepancies. If anyone is digging into the case, have you come across any enlightened theories about why South Portland PD is taking the lead here despite the location of the last confirmed sighting? The details are all over the place, and it just feels like something might have slipped through the cracks. If you have any insight, please share!
