I’ve been following the case of Arkia Berry, her son Landon, and Eric Ashley Jr., and something that’s been on my mind is the location of the shooting. Echo Highlands Park is supposed to be a safe area, a place where families can relax and enjoy a sunny day. To think that such a horrific crime could unfold there is chilling. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved the victims; it must feel like you can’t even find peace in the places that are meant for community and connection.
Is there anything we can do to make these public spaces safer, or are there ongoing efforts from the city to address these issues? I get that this is a broader problem, but the sense of fear these incidents create is real. No family should ever have to worry about their safety in their own community.
Also, if anyone in the Birmingham area has noticed anything unusual or if they can provide some sort of insight into what might have led to this, please reach out to the authorities. It’s a small step, but maybe it can help bring some closure to this devastating event.
Hey everyone. I’ve been following the case of Arkia “Kia” Berry, her son Landon, and Eric Ashley Jr., and the more I learn about it, the more I want justice for them. One thing that’s been sticking with me is how close they were to Echo Highlands Park when it happened. That park is usually such a peaceful place where kids play and families gather, yet this horrific act shattered its peace. It’s surreal to think that on what seemed like a typical day, something so jarring could occur.
I’ve heard that Kia was an amazing hairstylist, and the fact that her son was just about to start kindergarten is just devastating. It’s hard not to think about the milestones Landon won’t get to experience. This case really makes you reflect on how fleeting life can be and the senselessness of violence. If anyone knows anything, anything at all, coming forward could really make a difference in bringing some semblance of peace to their families. My heart goes out to them during this unbelievably difficult time.
