I wanted to share something that's really been weighing on me about Caleb Witt's case. It's so profoundly sad to think about how this violence has impacted his community, especially at P.D. Jackson-Olin High School. A young life ended far too soon, and an entire school left grappling with the loss. I've read how students and teachers have been coming together, supporting each other, and trying to find a way forward.
It makes me wonder about the conversations happening in the school and what kind of support the students need right now. How are they addressing the fear and trauma this might have sparked? It’s hard for me to wrap my head around how deeply this must affect the mental health of those who knew him, as well as those who didn’t but are now forced to confront the reality of gun violence.
I really hope the community and local authorities come together to find meaningful solutions. It’s vital that we create spaces where kids feel safe and secure—both at school and in their neighborhoods. We need more dialogue, more intervention programs, and hopefully, more healing in the aftermath of this senseless tragedy. Sending all my love to Caleb's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
I've been following the tragedy of young Caleb Witt and I can't help but feel a wave of sadness for his family and friends. It’s so incredibly tough to see someone with his whole future ahead cut down at just 17. What really sticks with me is the conversation it’s sparked within the Birmingham community—especially about youth and gun violence.
It’s unsettling to think about the environment our young people are navigating and the pressures they face. As a senior at P.D. Jackson-Olin High School, Caleb should have been looking forward to graduation, new beginnings, and chasing dreams. Instead, we're left with a community in grief and searching for answers.
I know the authorities have reclassified this as a justified death, but it doesn't lessen the pain for those who knew and loved him. I genuinely hope this conversation leads to meaningful action—kids should never feel like picking up a gun is their only option. Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.
