Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the impact that Dwaine Thomas's murder must have had on his classmates and teachers at G.W. Carver High School. I can't even imagine how tough it must be for them to cope with the loss, especially with him being so close to graduation and having such a bright future ahead. It breaks my heart to know that another young person with aspirations like his won’t get to see them come to fruition. I heard the school brought in grief counselors, which is definitely a positive step, but I wonder how the students are really holding up now, over a year later. Has anyone heard any updates about community efforts or school programs aimed at tackling youth violence in Birmingham since this tragedy? It feels like something needs to change to prevent more families from experiencing this kind of pain. Thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone at Carver High.
