I’ve been following the case of Javanna "Midge" Cotton Owens, and my heart truly goes out to her family, especially considering the recent loss of her grandson, Marquette Carter. What really struck me is how the Birmingham Police Department used those Flock Safety license plate readers to track down the suspect’s vehicle. It’s remarkable how technology can play such a crucial role in these investigations nowadays. I’m thankful they were able to make an arrest, but it’s still such a devastating situation for Midge’s family to endure. It’s hard to imagine losing two family members in such a short period. My thoughts are with them as they navigate this incredibly challenging time.

Seeing the community still grappling with the loss of Midge Owens is truly touching. I keep thinking about the aspect of familiarity in this case—how she seemed to recognize the people in that car. It must be unsettling for her family and friends, knowing that someone she might have trusted was involved. I can’t imagine the pain of not only losing a wonderful person like Midge, who was so active in her church community and family, but also Marquette just weeks before. It’s such a devastating blow. The connection between the two incidents has been on my mind, though they seem unrelated by the suspects. Has anyone else been digging into whether authorities explored any deeper ties, even just as a precaution? Sending strength and support to all others who knew and loved them.
