I’ve been following the tragic case of Stephone Lamar Jemison and something that really sticks with me is how quickly things escalated into violence. It’s so unsettling to think how a verbal argument can transform into a life-or-death situation in just moments. This highlights how critical it is for us to find better ways to de-escalate arguments and conflicts in our communities. My heart truly goes out to Stephone’s loved ones, who are grappling with his loss and trying to make sense of the decision to rule the shooting justifiable. This must be such a difficult reality to face. What can we do to prevent these situations from reaching such tragic outcomes? Honestly, these cases remind me of how fragile life can be and how important it is to communicate and resolve disputes peacefully. I hope his family finds some peace and that we, as a community, can work towards fewer of these incidents happening in the first place.
