I’ve been thinking a lot about how truly devastating it must be for Jurnee’s family and the entire community in Birmingham right now. It’s difficult to imagine how they’re coping with such a sudden and senseless loss. What caught my attention was how this tragedy has seemed to ignite a strong response from the community. I read that there have been vigils and community meetings aimed at addressing gun violence in the area. It’s heartening to see people coming together to support one another and push for change in the wake of something so terrible. Mayor Woodfin’s words really stuck with me too. It feels like there’s a shared agreement that this kind of tragedy can’t keep happening. I genuinely hope that Jurnee’s story brings more attention to the issues that led to her death, and that meaningful actions are taken to prevent anything like this from happening again. Sending all my thoughts to everyone affected by this horrendous situation.
