Hey everyone,
I've been following the recent tragedy involving LaWanda Russell, and my heart goes out to her family, especially her mom, Monica. I can't even imagine the pain they must be feeling right now. What struck me in particular was Monica's call for tougher curfew rules. I believe this is an important conversation for us to have.
While curfews alone won't solve the underlying issues, they might be a step towards reducing incidents like what happened to LaWanda. It's infuriating to think of young lives being caught in the crossfire of senseless violence. If implementing stricter curfew laws can provide a layer of safety, then maybe it's something worth considering.
I also think it’s essential for the community to come together and address the root problems, whether it's through increased support for youth programs or creating more jobs and opportunities for young people in Birmingham. LaWanda had just registered for school; she had her whole life ahead of her. It's beyond tragic that it was cut short.
I'm curious what others think. Do you think stricter curfews could help, or are there other measures we should be focusing on? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.
Sending love and strength to LaWanda’s family and friends.
