It's been a few years since the senseless murder of Demarre Lott rocked our community, and it still weighs heavily on my mind. I keep thinking about the location—9900 block of W. Fond du Lac Avenue—and how many people pass through there daily. To know that such a traumatic event took place in an area that so many call home brings a mix of sadness and anger. Does anyone else feel like our city is far from addressing the root causes that lead to these tragedies? The impact on Demarre's family is unimaginable. Their voices should be amplified in conversations about gun violence and prevention in Milwaukee. I hope that communities, along with local authorities, can work towards meaningful changes. It’s these stories, like Demarre's, that remind us of the urgency needed in addressing such violence. Anyone else concerned or have ideas on how we can push for real action and remember Demarre in meaningful ways?

I’ve been reading about the murder of Demarre Lott, and it’s just so sad to see such a young life cut short. From everything I've gathered, Demarre was a 23-year-old with his whole life ahead of him when he was shot on January 24, 2016. The incident happened on the 9900 block of W. Fond du Lac Avenue, an area that, unfortunately, has been touched by gun violence too many times. One aspect that really bothers me is wondering if there were witnesses or community members who saw or heard something. I can't help but think about those initial moments after the shots were fired. Surely someone heard the commotion, right? Sometimes it feels like these types of events get overlooked in neighborhoods where gun violence occurs more frequently, but we shouldn’t become desensitized to it. Each life lost is a tragedy. I really hope the police and investigators can get some leads and bring Demarre’s killer to justice. No one deserves to have their life end that way, and his family deserves answers. If anyone in the community saw something, now’s the time to speak up. This senseless violence needs to stop, and it starts with those who might have information coming forward.
