I recently came across the case of Carroll Donald Parkins and something struck me about the 2020 wildfires that affected the search area. Having followed several missing person cases, I've noticed that the aftermath of wildfires can truly change the landscape to such an extent that it might confuse anyone who's familiar with the terrain. I wonder if these altered conditions might have disoriented Mr. Parkins as he was out shed hunting. It's already tough with limited cell service, but add in a transformed landscape and it's easy to see how someone could get lost or turned around. Does anyone here have experience with the aftermath of wildfires in search efforts? I'm curious how they typically affect visibility and navigation.
I’ve been following Carroll’s case closely and something that puzzles me is the impact of the 2020 wildfires on the area where he went missing. Could the post-fire terrain have played a bigger role in the search challenges than we realize? From what I’ve read, these areas can be extremely unstable with hidden pitfalls and vegetation that’s either too dense or too sparse—both of which could hide someone or any potential clues. Did anyone hear if the search teams were using aerial thermal imaging, and if that was impaired by the vegetation? It's just so worrisome that despite all the resources and efforts, they came up empty. Perhaps some of the local folks familiar with post-fire landscapes could provide insight on whether there's a possibility it's obscuring evidence. It’s just so crucial to rethink and explore every angle to try and piece together what might have happened to him.
Has anyone else been following the case of Carroll Donald Parkins? I can't get over how difficult the terrain is in that area. I was out near Molalla Forest Road a few years back, and the landscape is just absolutely rugged—it's no wonder search efforts were so challenging. Between the steep hills and the remnants of the 2020 wildfires, it must have been a nightmare for the search teams. It's frustrating to hear that they didn't find any clues. I keep wondering if there's some spot they might've missed or if there's a part of the terrain that's particularly dangerous where he might've ended up. Just hoping that someone who knows that area well might be able to provide some insights that could lead to a breakthrough. Let's keep supporting Carroll's family in any way we can!
