Has anyone else dug into the whole metal detector angle in the James Edward Erickson case? It seems odd that out of all his personal items, only the metal detector, handgun, and camera were missing from the camp. Given Erickson's interest in gold mining, I wonder if he had stumbled upon something significant or potentially hazardous while out there. The fact that his inclement weather gear was left behind suggests that maybe he left in a hurry or didn't plan to be gone long. Could he have found a promising site with his metal detector and ventured off without realizing how remote or dangerous the location might be? It might be worth considering which areas nearby are known for gold deposits. I’d love to hear thoughts from anyone familiar with rockhounding or gold mining in that region.
Hey everyone,
I’ve been following the James Edward Erickson case for a while and something about the missing metal detector caught my attention. Given his interest in gold mining, I wonder if Erickson ventured deeper into the forest in search of promising spots. Plumas National Forest is vast and filled with uncharted territories that could have grabbed his interest, especially with his adventurous spirit.
Moreover, the fact that his handgun and camera are also missing suggests he might have intended to document something or keep safe while pursuing these leads. Has anyone considered if he could have discovered something significant or unusual that made him veer off course? Or maybe he stumbled upon an old mining site?
I also think the timeframe of his disappearance in the fall might have worked against him if he went far. Does anyone have insights into that area and what it’s like around that time? It might help us understand better what he might have encountered. Thanks!
