Hey everyone, I've been following the William Hearne case and something that's been gnawing at me is the bond situation for Aziz. I understand that the judge set it at $175,000, but doesn’t that seem really low given the nature of the crime and the fact that he admitted to it?! From what I've read, the state wanted it set at $1 million—does anyone know if there's a particular reason the judge went for such a lower amount? Like, could there be some legal strategy behind this, or is it just standard procedure for cases like this? It seems baffling to me that someone could potentially walk free on bond after such a violent act. Would love to hear your thoughts or if anyone has similar examples where bond was set low in a severe case. Thanks!

I've been following William Hearne's case since it hit the news, and something's really been bothering me about the bail situation. Why on earth was Jahid Aziz's bond set so low at $175,000, when the prosecution wanted $1 million? We’re talking about a murder charge with tampering, so it seems like the risk of flight or further harm would warrant a higher bond. I understand bonds aren't supposed to be punitive, but it still feels like a slap in the face to William's loved ones who are grieving. Does anyone know if there’s protocol about setting bonds that are so much lower than what the state requests? Or is this just an example of inconsistencies in the system? Hoping justice is served in the end, but this part just doesn’t sit right with me.

I can't stop thinking about the judge's decision on setting Aziz's bond. $175,000 seems really low for a murder charge, especially considering the state's request was for a $1 million bond. I'm all for fair legal processes, but shouldn't the bond reflect the severity of the crime and potential risk? It seems like it might not align with the community's concern, given the circumstances. I hope that the upcoming legal proceedings provide more clarity and that justice is ultimately served for William’s family. What do you all think about how bond amounts are decided in such serious cases?
