Has anyone else been digging into the background of Barbara Goldsmith's case? It’s been on my mind a lot as I read more about the string of unsolved murders in South Memphis in 2011. I can’t help but think about how vulnerable those women were and how terrifying it must have been living in that area at the time. The fact that the authorities suspected a serial assailant targeting women involved in sex work is chilling. I keep wondering — with all the advancements in forensic technologies over the past decade, is there any hope the cases might see new developments? It’s so frustrating to think that these victims and their families haven’t seen justice. I hope their stories aren’t forgotten and that someday, someone will be held accountable. If anyone has more details or insights, I’d love to discuss further.
Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about the 2011 South Memphis murders lately, especially after revisiting the case of Barbara Goldsmith. What's been nagging at me is how these tragic events seemed to get lost amid the chaos of rising crime rates that year. With so many victims, primarily women engaged in sex work, I'm wondering whether there are enough resources being directed towards providing support and protection for vulnerable populations in Memphis.
It's painful to consider that Barbara and the others might have been overlooked not just in life but in death, too, because of how society tends to marginalize sex workers. The streak of murders that year feels like a glaring reminder of not only the violence but also of the inadequate support systems for these women.
Community involvement seems crucial now more than ever—if anyone out there has ideas or initiatives already in place to help, it would be wonderful to hear about them. Let's hope one day justice is served, but meanwhile, maybe we can do more to protect those who are most at risk.
Sending strength to Barbara’s family and friends who have had to endure such a long wait for answers.
