I've been following the case of John Root Fitzpatrick and Fang Jin, and I find the discovery of their remains quite puzzling, especially in the context of where they were found. An abandoned truck with flat tires in such a remote area like Harper Canyon suggests something went awry during their trip, possibly intentionally. What I'm curious about is why they would go so deep into Anza-Borrego Desert State Park—it's not exactly a typical tourist stop after visiting Joshua Tree National Park. Could they have been meeting someone, or were they perhaps trying to escape a threat? Given Fitzpatrick's military background, it's hard to imagine he would let his guard down completely. Anyone have thoughts on this or similar cases where the victims end up in completely unexpected locations? It seems like one odd detail in an already baffling situation.
