Peggy Joyce Jones Mandeville, a 39-year-old white female, went missing from the Camarillo/Oxnard, California area on or around September 1, 1978. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as being 5'2" tall and weighing approximately 100 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. Mandeville may also have used her maiden name, Peggy Joyce Jones.
In 1978, Mandeville was admitted to Camarillo State Hospital for treatment of chronic depression. Sometime in September of that year, she left the hospital. After leaving the facility, she made phone calls to both her mother and her husband from a pay phone. This was the last time anyone is known to have heard from her.
The police in both Camarillo and Oxnard, California, are investigating her disappearance. Additionally, the Cape Girardeau Police Department in Missouri, which is where Mandeville's mother resided, is also involved in the investigation. A missing person report was filed with the Camarillo police department shortly after she went missing. Her mother also filed a report in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Despite these efforts, her case remains unsolved. It has been reported that her ex-husband, who has since passed away in 2019, filed for abandonment before filing for divorce. Peggy's mother passed away in 1997, having never moved or changed her phone number in the hope that her daughter would one day make contact.
