I've been reading more about Lisa Norrell's case, and one detail that's so incredibly frustrating to me is how poorly lit and isolated the Pittsburg-Antioch Highway was back then. It's almost unfathomable that a teenager rehearsing for such a joyous event would have to use such a dangerous route to get home. I can't help but wonder if things would have been different if there had been better lighting or more police patrols in the area. My heart truly goes out to Lisa's family and friends who have had to carry this unimaginable loss, compounded by the fact that her killer still hasn't been found. It's such a cruel reminder of how vital community safety and awareness are.
