Has anyone else been following the search efforts that took place at the Butterfield Landfill? It never ceases to amaze me how enormous and daunting a landfill site can be. I mean, they zoned off a huge area and even had specialized training for those 18 officers. The amount of effort — 59 days sifting through 8,000 tons of waste — really speaks to their dedication. But how heartbreaking must it be for the family that despite all this intense work, they never found Cookie Jacobson's body? It's just so frustrating to think someone can vanish like that and never truly be found despite all efforts. Are there any landfill recovery experts here who might shed some light on how common it is to come up empty-handed in these big searches?
Hey everyone,
I’ve been looking into the Cookie Jacobson case and stumbled on something intriguing about the landfill search. Can you imagine spending that long—59 days!—sifting through 8,000 tons of waste? It really shows how dedicated those officers were. It's baffling how despite all that effort and the $375,000 spent, they still came up empty-handed. It just makes you wonder if something crucial was missed or if she wasn't there at all. You have to feel for the family and those officers who put in the work hoping to find some closure. What do you guys think? Could there be another angle we haven't considered yet?
Have any of you looked into the community’s response back in '98 when Cookie went missing? I’m just trying to understand how the neighbors and local businesses reacted to the news and the search efforts. They say 100 folks handed out flyers within 200 square miles, which is a massive area. Did any of those people come forward with tips or sightings, or was it a total dead end right from the start? It’s baffling that there was such a big initial effort, yet things seemed to stall so fast. Also, if anyone here was around Tempe at that time, I’d love to hear how the case was talked about in the community then. How did people feel about the situation with her kids and the landfill search? It's hard to imagine what everyone was going through.
