I've always found it puzzling that William "Bill Phater" Lafferty vanished so completely without a trace. I mean, Ocean City is a busy area, especially in December with people out doing holiday activities. It seems odd that nobody spotted anything unusual. I was looking at a map and that area around Asbury Avenue is pretty central, lots of shops and people around. It’s so bizarre to think he could’ve disappeared in such a public place without leaving any clues behind.
I wonder if anyone remembers seeing him that day, or if there have been any unreported sightings. Maybe someone who wasn't aware of the case saw him and didn't realize what they witnessed could be important. Plus, with his nickname "Bill Phater," it makes me think he was known by a lot of locals. I hope someone, somewhere remembers something that could reopen the search or shed new light on where he might have gone.
I'm really curious about the details surrounding William Charles Lafferty's life leading up to his disappearance. Does anyone know what he was up to in the months before he went missing? It’s interesting that he had connections in multiple states like Florida and New York. Could there have been a planned trip or something that took him out of Ocean City? Also, has anyone heard more about the status of his Social Security check? Was it ever cashed, and if so, where? I wonder if any surveillance footage from around that area back in '99 might hold any clues, although I know it's a long shot given how much time has passed. If anyone has info or theories, please share!
