The tragic case of Justin Jackson has shaken our community deeply, and my heart goes out to his family. They must be going through unimaginable pain. I can't help but reflect on the use of K-9 units in situations like this. While I understand the intent to de-escalate, it's distressing to think that a miscalculation can have such dire consequences. The loss of life—both human and canine—is devastating. Would things have played out differently without the K-9 unit? I hope there are lessons learned from this, leading to better practices in the future. We need to ensure that every measure is taken to protect all lives in these tense situations. Every life is precious, and we as a community have to push for change to prevent future tragedies like Justin's.
