I've been following the case of Michael Sloan and can't shake how much this tragedy underscores the struggles faced by Pittsburgh's communities during that time. I grew up not too far from where Michael was killed, and it's terrifying to think about how frequent these violent incidents were back then. What really stands out to me is how systemic the issues were, affecting mostly young African American men who had their whole lives ahead of them. I feel for Michael's family—it's incomprehensible to imagine losing a loved one in such a senseless, violent way. My heart goes out to them as they continue to seek justice. It makes me wonder how different things might be if the city had more community support systems back then or if there had been more efforts to address gun violence comprehensively. To anyone who might know something, even the smallest detail could be crucial in solving Michael's case. I hope they find it within themselves to come forward to provide his family with some sense of closure. The community deserves to heal, and justice for Michael could be a step in that direction.
