I’ve been diving back into old missing persons cases, and John Eric Lake’s story piqued my interest, especially regarding where he was last seen. The subway in New York City during the late '60s was a bit of a different world. Public transportation could be sketchy, and there were reports of crime on the rise during that period. I wonder if there's any possibility his disappearance could be connected to something that happened in or around the subway that night? It's unlikely anyone remembers specifics now, but historical crime data for that area might shed some light. Could there be witnesses who were never identified or questioned due to the delayed reporting?

Has anyone here looked into what Lake's plans were after dropping off his acquaintance that night? I read that he planned to head to a subway station to get back to his apartment in Greenwich Village. Has anyone looked into whether he actually made it into the subway system or if there were any disturbances reported in the area around that time? It seems odd that someone could just vanish into thin air in a busy place like Manhattan. Plus, with his work at *Newsweek* and his connections, you'd think someone might have seen him. I wonder if there are any other subway-related incidents or sightings around that period that might have gone unnoticed or unreported. With his reported struggles, someone might have spotted something unusual. Thoughts?
