Was anyone else struck by the timing of Smith's disappearance? July 4th is such a busy day in any city, with so much foot traffic and events going on. I wonder if the holiday created any challenges in investigating his case initially or if it helped because more people were out and might have seen something. It seems like such a long time ago now, but maybe someone still remembers something that could help piece together what happened. Also, the mention of his green '77 VW Rabbit kept bugging me. Those cars are pretty noticeable. Has anyone ever come forward with a sighting of his car post-disappearance, or do we think it just vanished too?

Hey everyone, I've been looking into Smith's case and something that caught my attention is the car he was driving—a green 1977 Volkswagen Rabbit. It's odd because, from what I've read, Rabbits aren't exactly the quietest or most inconspicuous cars. Given that the car vanished alongside him, you'd think it might have been spotted somewhere if there was any kind of chase or if someone tried to sell it for parts. I'm curious if there were any reports of a similar car being found abandoned or involved in other crimes after July 1991? Or if local garages had anyone trying to get work done on a similar car around that time. Sometimes small details like this can shake something loose. What do you guys think?

Hey everyone, I've been digging into Smith's case, and something caught my eye. Has anyone looked into the make and model of his car, the green 1977 Volkswagen Rabbit? I know it's kind of specific, but considering the car disappeared along with him, I feel like it could be significant. Volkswagens from that era had some unique quirks that might cause them to stand out, maybe attracting attention if someone tried to sell or scrap it. Does anyone know if there were any searches specifically focused on tracking down that exact type of vehicle, or did anyone else on this forum remember seeing a similar car around Phoenix at that time? The roads he traveled that day might have had traffic or CCTV cameras that could have captured something too; though I know that's a bit more of a stretch with the technology back in '91. Just wondering if anyone's got leads in that department or if it's being overlooked.
