Hey everyone, I stumbled across the case of Jasmine Kirlissa Collins and her mother, Melissa Collins, which has haunted the Akron community since 1991. I've been particularly curious about the angle involving Raymond "Sweet Pea" Smith. His involvement in the case is unsettling, and I'm baffled by the fact that he was never officially interviewed by the police before his suicide. This raises so many questions, like why wasn't he ever pushed to explain his actions that night or the bloody clothes he was seen wearing? With his background, how did law enforcement not make him a focus sooner? I'm just trying to wrap my head around how critical opportunities may have been missed in those early days when they vanished. Anyone else have insights on how typical this might be for investigations back then?
I’ve been reading about the Collins case, and something that stands out to me is how crucial timing seemed back then. Why wasn’t there a quicker action on investigating Smith? It’s baffling that no formal interview happened before his death, especially given his background. I feel like with missing person cases, especially involving young kids, every minute counts! Is there any info out there on why it took so long for law enforcement to zero in on Smith, or if anyone else was ever considered a person of interest? It’s maddening to think how different things might have turned out if the investigation had been more aggressive from the get-go.
Has anyone else been following the Melissa and Jasmine Collins case from '91? I recently read about it, and I can't stop thinking about the detail where Melissa left behind all of Jasmine's baby supplies and pre-filled bottles. That really stood out to me because it's such an unusual thing for a mom to do if she was planning on leaving. It definitely gives the impression that whatever happened was unexpected. Does anyone know if there was any more information about the nature of her relationship with Raymond "Sweet Pea" Smith before they disappeared? It feels like there might be some more pieces to the puzzle there that haven't been clarified. Would love to hear any thoughts or insights from others on this.
